Another problem
How do you explain what a "new self" is? Meaning when you turn 18 and you realize that everything has changed, including your responcibilities, how do you explain that these sometimes change you into someone else a " new you"?

Paper dilemma
I can't seem to figure out how to explain what Jacques Lacan describes as the mirror stage, it is as follows,"when infants look in the mirror, and first recognize that they have a self outside of their own self, they will forever seek that unity of self they once had." I am more interested in the part where she says "a self outside of their own self," I just can't seem to describe what this means in a more descriptive way that makes sense, And without making it more than a paragraph or two. Any advice??

WB Post 3
My first resource is from a website called “The Journey from Adolescence to Adulthood.” ( http://searchwarp.com/swa25822.htm. ) Regardless of the difficulties that surround this important transition, these terrible teens will normally grow into wonderful young adults that you can be proud of (Anne Wolski.) Not only was Wolski’s article unconvincing, but it left me trying to fill in the blanks, because she only touched on topics without going in to detail. I couldn’t help but wonder, why are these transitions’ important, why are teens terrible, and how do/will they grow into wonderful adults? Even though I do find this topic very interesting, it is extremely hard to base an opinion or be completely certain of the opinion you do form when it is anchored by something so inconclusive.
My second source is sited from (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/648945/stages_of_development_changes_from.html ) by Angel Tate. Although Tate may not be a professional in the sense (Dr/BSW/LCP), when she speaks about adolescents her tone is very focused and easy to follow. She speaks about the adolescents search for independence and how they tend to always be in conflict with anyone and everyone that are in authoritative positions.

Eminem "Mocking Bird"
I really like this song, my husband likes to sing the end of it to my daughter Reese. When he says:
And if you ask me too, Daddy's gonna buy you a mockingbird I'mma give you the world I'mma buy a diamond ring for you I'mma sing for you I'll do anything for you to see you smile... And if that mockingbird don't sing and that ring don't shine, I'mma break that birdies neck I'll go back to the jeweler who sold it to ya And make him eat every carat don't f*** with dad (haha)
And although the other words to this song really don't have any significance to my personal life, I still get alittle tear eyed when I hear him sing parts in it like: Cause all I ever wanted to do was just make you proud. I never could have imagined that "such a small person" (my daughter) could influence my life so much! I mean to a certain degree you can imagine, but not really to the full extent until you have a child of your own.. Ever since she was born, I only want to make myself better, for her and my family; to make them proud of me and for Reese to know that IF mommy could do it (anything) then so can I.

Wilcox- Fear the princess screamed once
I don't know about everyone else, but when Whedon comments that "he wants children to remember the fear of "Hush" : in effect, he seems to saying that he wants it to have the impact of a good fairytale on children working out their emotional world (Whedon 148.)" What does this mean to you?It seems somewhat cold in a way, because when I think of fairytales, I think of Happily ever after or once upon a time rather than actual times and dark scary endings with we need to talk conversations! Also when he says "children working out their emotional world," once we talk about the real depth of the show it doesnt seem something a child would quite understand. "Help working out your emotional world" usaully does not consist of scary "gentlemen" roaming around at night cutting humans' heart out. Am I right, or did I miss something?
Moeller "Is it art?"
To tell you the truth, I never even thought twice about the abandoned church in the beginning of the show! "An abandoned church is unlikely in Sunnydale- an abandoned church- Think about it. Considering the fact that the possibility of a grisly death in this particular town seems very high, the need for prayer is especially high (Moeller 97)." I don't attend church at all, but if I lived in a town that always seemed to have bad/weird things happening, I think I would do my share of begging and pleaded to ANY god.
Grimm
I thought it was interesting when it speaks about Buffy being in the hospital and "her mother Joyce and her watcher Giles connect via a brief exchange about Buffy's well being, which provides a glimpse of the traditional mother/father parental authority that is rarely evident in the series" (bridges 93). Not only did I realize that you never see her answering to an adult (Where have you been? Why were you out so late?), but also that she mainly relates to her watcher Giles as a means of support, guidance and acceptance. So we should only assume that Buffy's parental authority is equally divided amongst her mother , father, and her watcher. And although it is sometimes hard to remember "the audience is reminded that Buffy- age seventeen at this point in the series- is still a child with extremely adult responsibilities (Grimm 93)." As I point out in my research paper, Buffy is in a need of holding onto her childhood because she has so much responsibilities fighting the evil forces that she is afraid of what responsibilities being a "real" adult will entitle.

Hush
I thought it was very interesting at the end, when Riley went to talk to Buffy. I have been writing about how insecure and alone Buffy tends to feel in previous episodes, but as a collegian she seems to have overcome many but not all of these dilemmas. I say this because she easily steps up to the plate to battle the "Gentlemen", never even breaking a stride when she runs into Riley. But I said she "overcomes many, but not all of these dilemma's" because Buffy does second guess herself, when she is thinking about talking to Riley about her (extracurricular) activities as a slayer. In the end you wonder if he even begins think about why Buffy was there fighting away the demons, and only wants to explain his part in the scenario. Mainly because he speaks about how much he cares about her, and he is tired of hiding the truth. This seems to still be a reoccurring issue even in college, with feeling like your alone.

Freewriting #2
I have been writing about how insecure Buffy seems to be with herself, specifically in season 3 episode 12. As Buffy turns 18 it seems hard for her to let go of her adolescence years where she has become so confident, and rightfully so. In the book titled The truth of Buffy I quote "Understanding and controlling those emotions helps lead the self to become a more fully realized human being". I believe this is important because it is saying once she is able to understand this new chapter in her life, then she will be able to explore more deeply all the emotions and feel more complete and secure as an adult. So the psychological conflict of the show is based on the constant struggle of characters who examine and reexamine and then discover their inner emotional problems-

I think adolescents tend to "run" from their problems, meaning, rather than deal with the issue at hand they would rather "deal with it later" or not deal with it at all. This can be bad for a number of reasons, such as, the stress of the situation or issue will only build up inside and start eating away at you, denial can set in and/or addiction's can form. When you think of all these things that can go wrong just by not communicating and staying withdrawn from the situation at hand, it almost seems kinda silly, doesn't it . Wouldn't you rather just handle the issue by talking it out, listening or by forgiving and forgetting?

Oh my god!!! So I am the team Captain for the "Buckeye Diva's" (Hit the Road with the Buckeyes Challenge) it is a physical challenge designed around the 2009 OSU football season. Teams of five can “walk” the distance to the Big Ten away football games by tracking daily steps. The challenge is sponsored by Your Plan for Health for all faculty and staff. You can win some really great weekly prizes all while getting in shape!
Anyways, I have been trying run anywhere between 8-12 miles a day, and one of my teammates decided she wanted to have a 1 on 1 challenge. It was a simple competition, where we would try to get more miles than each other from Friday to Monday. It wasn't easy but... I managed to get 14.72 miles on Friday- 24.45 on Saturday- and 20.06 on Sunday! And I won!!! I was able to get 59.23 miles in three days :0) But unfortunately, I feel like I am unable to move LOL every muscle in my entire body aches. I hate to lose in anything, so to me it was all worth it!!!

College Of Dentistry (WB prompt 2)
At a glance the Ohio State College of Dentistry appears to be a very efficient and organized institution. As a College its devotion is not only to the dental and continuing education of their current students, and prospective students; But also to research and outreach programs (serving underserved communities.) The Dental College consists of many different departments within its four floors, such as; Emergency clinic, Endodontics, Geriatrics, Orthodontic, Pedodontics, Periodontics, Graduate Prostodontics, Oral Surgery and Dental Hygiene. With over 450 students and a very busy work schedule, students and staff are encouraged to use their time wisely by attending civility training/ bi-weekly meetings, and students and faculty must do a required amount of research (ex: Science, pathology, biology, neuroscience, and immunology) all while continuing to meet even the most difficult of patient requests. I do believe it is notable that this university functions not only as a college but also as a business.
I have recognized the challenges of the University functioning as a College and business by its inability to adequately separate the two, meaning; on the surface the school acts as if education is there top priority, but in reality the Business aspect is what is consistently being emphasized, (total patient care, not utilizing the chairs to there full potential). I have personally witnessed (as an employee) the confusion this system creates; not only for the patients who do not understand that their student dentist can not see them the minute a need arises due to there educational obligations, but also for the staff who have to deal with the confusion because the college cannot find an median to equally balance the two systems.

Primary Source 2 (Helpless)
It was Buffy's 18Th birthday, and somehow she lost all her slaying powers- (she had no coordination and was getting picked on and knocked down by people she normally would have been able to stand up to.) She turned to her friends and family but no one would listen to her or take her seriously. Only one person seemed to help her and that was her boyfriend, he told her that he loved her from the moment he first saw her because he could tell she was a good person. I believe the writer was trying to show how some kids loss there sense of self when they're surroundings are changing drastically. Growing up unleashes new struggles and obstacles, so in order to overcome them you sometimes have to remember who you are, and that your not the only one that has gone through this awkward stage in life. Buffy was a senior and going to be graduating, that's a scary thing for some kids. The story explains how you have to have confidence and self reliance, and that those qualities will make you stronger as an adult.
'But She Was Naked! And all Articulate!'
In reality doesn't Inara have to be rhetorical sometimes to protect herself? It almost seems like she uses this training as a shield of some sort, And she can easily switch between all different forms of this method. When she is sitting in the room with Fess, and his father continuously degrades his son, she picks up on his dominance and the possibly bad situation and begins to dis empower Magistrate Higgins by telling him he is not welcome in her room any longer and that only his son is welcome, she is basically giving the son a taste of 'control' and helping him 'become a man'. But just as soon, she takes that power away from Fess too when she says, 'Sex is a ritual, a symbol.... But it doesn't make you a man, you do that yourself.' Basically as soon as he starts to feel comfortable around her, she puts his confidence in check, by letting him know she is in charge.

Our Mrs. Reynolds
We all should have known that something was up with Safron. I mean who just shows up on someone Else's spaceship and says "we are married." Especially since she was so heart broken about Malcolm not wanting to stay married to her. Of course he was freaking out, wouldn't you? I wasn't to surprised when she ended up poisoning Malcolm and knocking the other guy out so she could mess up the controls on the ship, Because she showed to many signs of being " To good to be true,." For example, Telling Malcolm she was there to serve him, or for basically saying we are still going to be married for a couple of days we can still get it on until then..... That's all I have to say, The good girl does a 360 from nice and innocent to dirty butt. LOL that just doesn't typically happen in a total of 1 second.

On a school day Buffy’s mother wakes her up from her dream to tell her it’s time for school. Her mother seems really surprised that not only does Buffy get up right away, But that her daughter is actually excited to go to school. She was looking forward to the weekend so she could spend time with her father whom she rarely gets to see; Since her parents got a divorce over a year ago. What she didn’t know was that some weird things were going to happen that day, for instance, her dad came to her school in the form of a nightmare and told her she was the cause of their divorce. She had been a bad child and if she would have tried harder then things wouldn’t have gotten so bad between him and her mother. I think what is trying to be communicated is that a lot of children experience turmoil when their parents get divorced and tend to believe that it is their fault, being a teenager you already feel insecure within or about yourself. There’s that “I could have done something different to change the outcome” and keep my family together. Maybe she felt torn between her two parents. I believe the writer wanted children to know that this is a normal reaction to an abnormal situation.
