Primary Source 2 (Helpless)

It was Buffy's 18Th birthday, and somehow she lost all her slaying powers- (she had no coordination and was getting picked on and knocked down by people she normally would have been able to stand up to.) She turned to her friends and family but no one would listen to her or take her seriously. Only one person seemed to help her and that was her boyfriend, he told her that he loved her from the moment he first saw her because he could tell she was a good person. I believe the writer was trying to show how some kids loss there sense of self when they're surroundings are changing drastically. Growing up unleashes new struggles and obstacles, so in order to overcome them you sometimes have to remember who you are, and that your not the only one that has gone through this awkward stage in life. Buffy was a senior and going to be graduating, that's a scary thing for some kids. The story explains how you have to have confidence and self reliance, and that those qualities will make you stronger as an adult.
